Apple stays one step ahead of the competition through its consistent innovations, the latest being its intent to offer a digital radio service through mobile devices.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook revealed, along with these new innovations, upgrades to the look of Apple mobile products. These products are expected to be released this fall. Some of the changed features include an updated Maps app, new ways to operate the system using gesture commands, and the streaming music service called ‘iRadio.’ This could propel Apple further into a digital music leadership position. It’s said to be a head-on marketing angle to compete with the leading internet radio service, Pandora.
It’s hard for most customers to keep up with frequent upgrades, and in many cases, a company’s attempt to innovate and stay ahead of the competition can confuse and alienate its core audience.
Will the new designs risk alienating long-time customers? Only time will tell.
