Looking at these Daniel Couto pin-up creations, you can understand why tantalizing images of women dressed in form-fitting uniforms continue to be popular nearly a century after its inception. But Couto’s work is unlike the pin-ups of yesteryears in that he has manipulated photos using digital software to achieve these perfect images whilst artists and photographers from decades past were more limited in their options.
Daniel Couto is a versatile photographer and CGI artist, harmonizing his two practices in a hybrid art form that’s not commonly seen. In his aptly named ‘Pin-ups’ series, Couto meticulously emulates the retro feel of women portraits from a time when people like Alberto Vargas reigned supreme. He accomplished this task by having his models mimic poses, hairstyles and expressions that were ever popular during the 1940s.
