Timber Noggin Protectors
Coyle Tree Piece Helmets are a Woody Way to Keep Heads Safe

By: Sarah Moore (Star) May 3, 12

Woodland-inspired items have been cropping up in a wide assortment of items recently, and the newest addition to the forestry product line sensation is Coyle Tree Piece helmets.

Inspired by the DIY brand of wood-worked melon covers that designer and company owner Dan Coyle made for himself to sport on whitewater kayaking trips, these helmets are Eco-friendly in their construction and outdoorsy in appearance.

Each head protector is unique and made to order with a choice of three different varieties. They are generally constructed from sustainably-harvested Douglas Fir trees that are kiln-dried, with the addition of epoxy, cork and polyurethane for the finishing touches.

While the headgear faired well on a professional impact tower test, a safety certification is difficult to attain for the entire line as each helmet is hand crafted. Rest assured, however, that a big block of wood is pretty solid.
