Forest Gump may have likened life to a box of chocolates, but designer Alexander Nettesheim interprets another famous philosopher’s teachings as a piece of furniture with the creation of the Confucius Sofa. Particularly known for his views on strong family loyalty, this couch could easily act as a unifying touch in any home.

Fashioned for German manufacturer Bretz, the Confucius Sofa is a lesson in opposites. Although it appears to advocate an unbalanced lifestyle, the use of oblique angles, crevices and gaps embrace life’s unexpected twists and turns. On a more practical level, the contours of the Confucius Sofa promote an optimally supported and soft seat that is perfect for lounging lazily on or entertaining guests with.
