Compulsively Piled Crockery
Completing Absence Tableware Encourages Orderly Eating

{SummaryTitle}

Dinner table manners differ from culture to culture, but artist Petra Schmidt has established a new form of etiquette with her project of Completing Absence tableware.

The saucers, plates and bowls that compose this collection each take on slightly different ceramic styles that make them look like pieces from separate dishware sets. To add to the eclectic quality of these quirky containers, each has a shiny silver marble embedded somewhere into its smooth and glossy surface.

The incorporation of such asymmetrical elements inevitably influences one’s ability to stack the objects one atop the other. Quite intentionally, Completing Absence tableware can only be successfully piled up in one single specific arrangement, challenging the user’s freedom to treat the collection arbitrarily.
