As minimalist as the Cloak Side Table may look, a simple approach was not taken to assembling it. The Versus designer might have simply cut a stable central stand or a set of four identical legs as a support system for the piece of furniture, but this was not done.
Instead, Samuel Wilkinson raised the round MDF tabletop on a single wooden stem, attached at a surprisingly asymmetrical angle. It’s fixed in the very middle of the surface’s underside but it slants sideways with no hope of holding the object level, or even up at all.
A long and slender piece of powder-coated steel was bent in the center and wrapped around the skewed stalk of the Cloak Side Table. It allows it to balance but presents the playful illusion that the furnishing may not be sturdy.
