The Cayetano Ferrer street signs provide a bizarre take on the regulation of traffic and urban activity. As they are transparent designs, passerby’s get a chance to apprehend the cautionary messages displayed while still remaining aware of the buildings and natural settings that lie behind the placards.

This Honolulu artist has remained committed to the problems presented by spatial dislocation, especially those brought about by architectural structures. His ‘Tow Zone,’ ‘Permit 204’ and ‘City of Chicago’ banners have mitigated the issue, breaking down the physical barriers that are often erected by way of construction. Ferrer’s project is a noble one, drawing attention to the frequently unforeseen impacts of urban sprawl upon the mental states of city dwellers.
