Carbon-Neutral Countries
Maldives Pledges to Meet Goal in One Decade

By: Hayley Grieve (Talented) Mar 17, 09

Maldives president Mohamed Nasheed has announced his country’s plan to be the first carbon-neutral nation in the world. The exciting news came at a time when the Maldives is facing serious threats to rising sea levels. They have a true sense of urgency to stop destruction to our environment as one of the lowest lying set of islands on Earth.

At this point, wind and solar power are the main plan of action for replacing use of polluting resources. The time for the transition has been set at 10 years, and the hope is that other nations will follow, especially those that are highly developed.
