In this speech, former member of the U.S. Marine Corps Bob Lutz delves into his career at the head of the automotive industry. Referencing his book, ‘Car Guys & Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business,’ Lutz discusses the ethical challenges in the corporate world. He argues that leadership goes hand in hand with character—leadership builds character and character enhances leadership.
He explains how individuals in leadership and management positions are constantly placed in situations in which they are forced to make decisions with which they might not initially be comfortable. He explains how these feelings of unease and uncertainty are a part of the job and will actually help make a leader become more confident and capable in his or her role.
