Without a defined, strategic launch plan, many great ideas fail to gain momentum as legitimate businesses; BNN’s show The Pitch looks to remedy this issue by providing hopeful entrepreneurs with the guidance they need to turn innovation into profit. Anxious innovators present their ideas to a panel of seasoned judges, including Our Chief Trend Hunter and entrepreneurial keynote speaker Jeremy Gutsche, in a 90-second pitch; they then receive helpful tips and pointers on how their idea can be improved.
The general theme of this episode of The Pitch is apparel. Many analysts have been quoted to say that the fashion and apparel industry would thrive in an economic recession; however, a passion for fashion must be balanced with entrepreneurial savvy for a company to succeed.
First to face the panel is frugal fashionista Lisa Delorme, CEO of Rent Frock Repeat. RFR is a company that rents couture dresses out to women of all sizes at an affordable price, similar to the way men can rent tuxedos. Second is Paul Bichler from the Eco Laundry Room, the world’s first environmentally friendly laundromat. The Eco Laundry Room, however, is not just piggybacking off of the green movement; the company is looking to provide a holistically more pleasant laundry experience.
Ultimately, most of the judges saw great potential in Rent Frock Repeat. Jeremy Gutsche noted the company’s use of rentable luxury, a concept that has been huge on Trend Hunter for some time now and thus, gave Delorme the green light. Though other judges may have been more skeptical, all recognized the genius behind RFR. The judges were less receptive to The Eco Laundry Room, with Gutsche stating that, though eco-friendliness is new and booming, laundromats are not. Watch the episode to see how the panel responded.
