Erratically Arranged Windows
Black & White Twins is a Study of Floor Plans with Zero Consistency

By: Amelia Roblin (Superstar) Dec 13, 12
{SummaryTitle}

Georgian architecture trained the Western eye to took for symmetry and rationality in the facade of a building. This sort of aesthetic conditioning might make the Black & White Twins development look comparatively quite untidy.

But this should certainly not be held against the idiosyncratic project, for the compositional character of inconsistency is what makes it intriguing. The flat black external walls have been punched out and installed with an array of windows of assorted sizes and seemingly arbitrary positions. These actually serve to animate the structure.

What you might have already guessed about the Blaricum apartment block is that the interior program is just as irregular. Casanova + Hernandez Architects wanted to ensure that no two condos inside Black & White Twins were alike, so to be better appreciated by unique owners and renters.
