Fantasy sport manager games have been around since the mid 90s. Their popularity has grown enormously, especially in the last five to six years.
According to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, 32 million people age 12 and above in the U.S. and Canada played fantasy sports in 2010.
Now, a new sports venture is presenting an innovative online concept. Instead of fictitiously “managing” a famous sports team or a league as an online game, Basketball United presents sports fans with the opportunity of crowd-managing online a real professional basketball team.
Initially, they will participate in the process of establishing the team, i.e. vote and choose its name, logo, mascot, and the cheerleaders.
Later, the FanManagers, as they are called, will vote and make decisions, such as signing or releasing players/coaches, team roster for each game, starting five, etc. Thus, the opinion of the fans will not only matter, but will actually be vital for the development of the team.
