Westerners are used to seeing the familiar pitched roof house hanging up as shelters for fowl in trees, mainly because people have translated their comfortable concept of home into dwellings for animals. For this reason, the Atom Birdhouse might come across as abstract and unusual when really its shape is quite natural.
Odile Decq cut and carved this soft and sculptural item from wood to produce a pair of different designs. The first is an almost fully enclosed form of an egg with a simple pair of narrow entrances on either side. The second looks more like a smoothed broken eggshell with a top, a separate bottom and two perches in the center. The Atom Birdhouse can thus function as a snug nest-ready shelter or an elegantly arranged bird feeder.
