Wall Scribbling Challenges
Artist Robin Rhode Invites First Graders to Color in the Gallery Walls

By: Tia Clarke (Star) Mar 10, 13

Artist Robin Rhode has turned a New York gallery into a giant coloring book for his latest exhibition ‘Paries Pictus.’ The fantastically fun exhibition saw the artist cover the blank walls of the Lehmann Maupin Gallery in outlines of illustrations. As part of an educational initiative to get school children interested in the arts, the artist has invited 37 first graders from the South Bronx to come along and color in the gallery walls.

We all know just how much children love scribbling on walls, so this will be a dream come true for a lot of the first graders involved. The artist has created giant crayons, which can be used to color in the wall outlines. This is a charming and worthwhile initiative that promotes participation in the arts from an early age.
