Compressed Theme Park Cubes
This Amusement Park Art Condenses a Theme Park into a Cube

By: Laura McQuarrie (Superstar) Jun 6, 13
{SummaryTitle}

‘Once’ is a piece of amusement park art that compacts parts of a theme park like rides, bumper cars and prizes into a 13-foot cube.

Amusement parks typically conjure images of fun, bright colors and shiny steel rides; this sculpture manages the opposite of that. In the process of compressing the theme park’s objects into a small square, the items became tarnished and now seem to resemble the remnants of an abandoned amusement park.

The Artist, James Dive of The Glue Society created this piece for this year’s ‘Sculpture by the Sea’ event in Denmark. Dive remarks that this “project is about the finality of a missed moment.” Although all of the pieces that make up this sculpture were once part of an amusement park, they will never be able to go back to what they once were.
