A small space can easily be transformed into a high-production agriculture unit, as the Agri-Cube by Daiwa House demonstrates. The Agri-Cube is a small pod that can grow about 10,000 vegetables on a per-year basis.
The plants require minimum maintenance and are cultivated in a steel pod that uses hydroponic equipment, a ventilation system and special fluorescent lights that encourage growth. According to PSFK, producing about 10,000 vegetables using the Agri-Cube would cost about 45 cents per vegetable. What’s more, using the same environmental control technology and liquid fertilizer, the Agri-Cube can grow 23 different kinds of vegetables, ranging from leafy greens and lettuce to some root vegetables like turnips and radishes.
As you’ll see in the video, Daiwa House explains that the Agri-Cube is small enough so that it can be installed in unused parking areas of restaurants, allowing the restaurant to grow its own vegetables.
