The Add Up Currency Exchange System Swaps Loose Change Banks Won't

By: Elise Ying-Hei Ho (Star) Nov 3, 12

Loose change from your travels is one thing that banks cannot change for you, which is why a few designers gathered to create the Add Up currency exchange system.

Created by Fan Cheng Kuei, Deng Pei Chih and Hsieh Tsai Ni, the Add Up is a winner of the Design Concept Award in the 2012 Red Dot Awards. To use this machine, simply insert your coins and choose the desired currency. The money can be transferred to your phone account or Skype dollars. With the various exchange rates, there’s bound to be some “micro exchange,” which is the long line of digits after the decimal.

When using this machine, the micro exchange can be transferred to the charity of choice. With the amount of travelers worldwide, if the Add Up currency exchange is implemented, the total amount for donations has the potential to be colossal.
