There may be a lot that scientists can learn from identical twins, but the ‘A Thing or Two About Twins’ portrait series diverts people’s attention from their DNA to their eerily similar features. A set of ten twins sat down for this special photo shoot that can currently be seen in the National Geographic’s January 2012 issue. The portraits might be extremely simple, but it shows just how uncanny their resemblance to each other really is.

Shot by New York-based photographer Martin Schoeller, the A Thing or Two About Twins portrait series is all about the details. It is almost like playing a game of Spot the Difference. But as National Geographic writes, “They have the same piercing eyes. The same color hair. One may be shy, while the other loves meeting new people. Discovering why identical twins differ—despite having the same DNA—could reveal a great deal about all of us.”
