Eco-Friendly Auto Detailing
The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic Gets An Environmentally Conscious Paint Job

The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic may not be known for its revolutionary styling, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t innovative. Auto manufacturer GM has adopted a water-based ‘three-wet’ painting process that will help reduce the company’s ecological footprint by 10%. This eco-friendly painting system was first applied to the otherwise ordinary Sonic at GM’s Orion Assembly Center in Lake Orion, Mich.

The ‘three-wet’ painting process requires no ‘primer bake’ oven time, which is normally employed in order to separate the primer layer from the color-coating layers. This new way of painting requires only one stop to the oven, meaning that the paint shop uses 50% less energy per vehicle, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80,000 metric tons and solvent emissions by 108,000 pounds per year.

Just because GM is going green doesn’t mean you have to kiss that new car sheen goodbye. The ‘three-wet’ system produces a finish that is just as durable and irresistibly shiny as traditional paint jobs. So, take a closer look at the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic for eco-friendly styling polished to perfection.
