In an effort to come up with a solution to the State of California’s governmental financial woes, some are proposing legalizing marijuana in order to generate sales tax revenue.
Growing and selling pot is illegal under federal law, but allowed under a California law that allows the medicinal use of the cannabis plant. A number of people have suggested that legalizing marijuana for recreational use would be a smart financial move for the state.
This debate isn’t new. On 4/20 every year since 1971, a group has met on Hippie Hill in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco to promote legalization by publicly smoking pot.
