'Shoot the Recession' by Slate Inspired by the Economic Crisis

— March 25, 2009 — Art & Design
The witty and sarcastically titled “Shoot the Recession” is a photography project by Slate that invites people to shoot scenes of the current economy crisis in their local area and upload it to the project’s flickr group.

So what images would you expect to see? Slate explains, “We welcome photos of closed stores and vacant homes; they’re clearly part of this story. But we would like to encourage our readers to find surprising ways of recording this recession.”

Slate continues, “Take a shot of the contents of the box you brought home with you when you were laid off. Take a shot of the handwritten sign at your local coffee shop apologizing for the price hike on two eggs, any style.”

Check out our gallery for examples of images from this project. To upload your own photos and see more, check out the project’s flickr group page.
