The Chiquet Flood House by Ben Adams Architects is ready for a severe storm and rising water levels. The house is situated on stilts a few feet above water in case the river rises unexpectedly.
While small, the new building looks much bigger due to certain features added. The wall facing the river consists of a large window so that the owners feel much more connected to the outside, while still being sheltered from the elements. A decent sized patio area sits on the same side too, so that during the summer months people can enjoy the outside weather.
Considering the building is so close to the water, putting it up on stilts in preparation for rising water levels is a smart thing to do.
