Angela Strassheim’s 'Evidence' photography series documents sites where familial homicides have taken place. Strassheim's morbid curiosity with carnage and bloodshed arose thanks to her past career as a forensic photographer.
Despite the endless attempts to clean and cover these spaces, the memory of murder lingers within. The black-and-white photographs of the interiors are especially haunting because, with the use of 'Blue Star' solution, the hidden blood splatters are illuminated by reactivating remaining DNA. The pictures of the suburban exteriors are even more mysterious. Strassheim titled each image with the name of the murder weapon, leaving the viewer to wonder, rather than see, about the gory details of the crime.
Strassheim discusses the project by saying, "Could we be a victim of violence or perform an act of violence against a loved one out of our immense capacity to feel jealousy, anger, rage, and desperation in a moment of extreme emotion? These photographs allow for the viewer to entertain the idea that this situation could involve anyone of us.”
