Chicago artist Bari Fleischer is raising funds for a giant sculpture that depicts a cancerous polyp (abnormal tissue) consuming a human head-first as the human flails in vain to try to escape. The sculpture will aptly be named 'The Man-Eating Polyp'.
Fleischer came up with the idea soon after she was diagnosed with pre-cancerous polyps in her digestive tract. The polyps could eventually develop into cancer, which runs in her family. The diagnosis and subsequent fear consumed Fleischer's every being, prompting her to envision a sculpture that would represent how bad occurrences consume people's entire lives.
Eventually, the two sculptures will be fused together to show the polyp consuming the human headfirst. Fleischer is raising funds for the project on Kickstarter.
