The Pillow Serving Dish was inspired by the fancy hotel custom of placing chocolates on guests' beds. The notion is that even the tiniest of treats is often appreciated as a gift in such a context. Maija Puoskari decided to bring this idea out of the bedroom and into the culinary environment.
The artist molds these pillow platters out of white porcelain material, sculpting them with all sorts of folds, indentations and puckering to realistically emulate the look of fabric with cotton stuffing underneath. The squared bolster looks perfectly plushy with a middle that's slightly sunken. This central surface functions as a shallow bowl, enabling you to arrange all sorts of edibles in small to medium-sized portions. The Pillow Serving Dish would make quite a novel fruit bowl and centerpiece.
