It wouldn't be surprising if the sculpture Minas Tirith by Pat Acton of Matchstick Marvels, an artist based in Gladbrook, Iowa, was slowly built since the last 'Lord of the Rings' instalment in 2003. It is so large and elaborate, it could easily have taken over 10 years to build. Instead, it took only three. The fictional city, which was built into the side of a cliff, Mount Mindolluin to be exact, is re-imagined using 420,000 matchsticks.
Complete with all of the landmarks of the city including the Citadel, the Tree of Gondor and the White Tower of Ecthelion, Minas Tirith by Pat Acton is a sight to behold, especially by true 'Lord of the Rings' fans.
