Sunnybrook Hospital, located in downtown Toronto, is making social media a little more personal by providing live tweets on the procedure of a heart patient. Along with tweets, these up to the minute updates also feature videos and close-up images of the operation.

Lou is a 57-year-old man who is being treated for coronary artery disease, and his entire procedure is being reported via Twitter. This experiment is being done as a way to inform the public of the hazards of cardiac disease as well as a deterrent away from hospitals by way of good health. This tactic is similar to sitting in on an open surgery, however as a opposed to learning techniques and proper procedures, this initiative is showing the effects of poor health and why it is important to be aware of your well-being.

February is known as heart month, and with the support of well established organizations like the Heart and Stroke Foundation, campaigns and other resourceful methods are being done to bring awareness and inform Canadians on the subject. Although it may be the first hospital in Canada to perform live tweets during operation, this strategy has previously been done in America and England.
