The latest tire reveal at the Detroit Auto Show 2014, is BMW A.G’s partnership with Bridgestone Corp in producing the ‘Ecopia Tire’ for the BMW i3 car. The short and sleek BMW’s will sport Bridgestone’s “ologic” larger-diameter/narrower tread concept. The BMW i3 is a short car, only 157 inches wide and 62 inches tall, the four-passenger “city car” will ride on Bridgestone’s ‘Ecopia Tire’ in a variety of sizes.
An essential feature of the Bridgestone tire is the “Multicell” rubber compound- making it the perfect tire for an electric vehicle like the BMW i3. One of the advantages of the customized tire is its ability to lower rolling resistance and reduce aerodynamic drag.
Developing tires for a unique vehicle unlike any other on the market is tricky, but none the less for a car of the future a unique futuristic tire concept is needed- and Bridgestone provides that crucial factor.
