Simulating a quarreling couple, a robotic sculpture composed of two robots is programmed to attempt to navigate their robotic relationship. The two robots named Vincent and Emily react to stimuli from both the other robot and spectators. Taking in both auditory and visual data, the robots move based on what's happening around them.
The goal of this project is to represent a human relationship in its most basic form. The robots were programmed to engage in imaginary conflict. Positive signals from one robot may be misinterpreted by the other. With long, simple wires to represent bodies, the robots sway in the air to the tune of imaginary conflict.
Though simple, the message behind these robots is quite deep. The swaying robots reacting to both societal and interpersonal pressures is a poignant reflection of real relationships.
