The Five Landscape Modes photo series is comprised of abstract reconstructs of the original images. Depicting environments that are at once everywhere and nowhere, the series transcends the bounds of time and place. The Canadian photographer, Jason Gowans, behind the exhibit reveals, "I wondered if it’s possible to represent the idea of landscape in photography without representing the actual sites." He showed the world that it was possible.
Currently on display at the Gallery Fukai in Vancouver, the Five Landscape Modes photo series was inspired by elements of land artists such as Robert Smithson. By grafting two-dimensional images onto three-dimensional sets, Gowans was able to convey the complexity of a landscape. Despite the fragmentation, the Five Landscape Modes series is representative of everyday life.
