Harumi Nakashima, an artist hailing from Japan, has become well-known for his stunning free-form sculptures. The exotic ceramics look as though they once lived a life beneath the ocean only to be specially hardened and put on display for humans. Thankfully, Harumi Nakashima's works of art aren't akin to taxidermy. Instead, they are of an abstract design that encourages people to see whatever they want to.
Currently on display at the Galerie NeC in Hong Kong, Harumi Nakashima's ceramic sculptures reject the hegemony of folk-craft style and philosophy that was once very popular in Japan. His adorably spotted creations is in line with the modern Sōdeisha movement, which Harumi Nakashima is part of. This movement is characterized by biomorphic and slab-built geometric forms as well as the lack of holes to better designate the ceramic creations as vases or pots.
