The first Eric Yahnker solo exhibition has just opened up in New York City and the entire show is based around the modern take on the American dream.
Yahnker describes his show as "three rooms, 3,600 sq. ft. of Yahnker madness!” The Los Angeles-based artist designed his pieces around the absurdities that lie in American culture today and the vague idea of the American dream.
While each of Yahnker's artworks have a subtle social undertone to them, they all are somewhat humorous. There is a collection of ceiling hangings containing various women's g-strings, a 10-foot graphite drawing of Jesus reading a Michelle Bachman book, a portrait of a girl with red hair that has been covered in fries and gravy, a collection of books with identical titles and many more.
The show touches base on religion, self-help books and celebrity and makes a mockery of each phenomenon perfectly.
