The Conan O'Brien Graduation Speech Gives Inspiration to Graduates
Marina Rotharmel — September 4, 2012 — Keynote Trends
Comedian and talk show host Conan O'Brien gave a heartfelt graduation speech to the 2011 class at Dartmouth College, which proved to be just as inspirational, as it was entertaining.
He makes jokes about the schools motto translating into "voice crying out in the wilderness" being one of the saddest school motto's of all time - to green being the schools color, which was solely chosen because it was the only color that had not already been taken.
However amongst the jokes are very inspirational messages to young people; who are leaving behind the comforts of being a student behind and jumping into a somewhat terrifying working life. O'Brien tells reminds graduates that dreams are constantly evolving and that the path you lay out for yourself at 22 will not be the one that defines you. Rather that you have to accept challenges and keep an open mind towards your future.
One of the most encouraging quotes by O'Brien is, "It is our failure to become our perceived ideal, that ultimately defines us and makes us unique. It's not easy but if you accept your misfortune, and handle it right, your perceived failure can become a catalyst for profound reinvention."
This isn't only a speech worth listening to if you are a recent graduate or will be, but one that people of all ages could take note from.
