The 'Clocking in from the Couch' Infographic Explains Work Lifestyles

— August 15, 2012 — Lifestyle
The 'Clocking in from the Couch' infographic examines the ways in which working from home is better or worse than working in an office environment. Though results in the survey state that the office still wins in terms of being the people's choice of where they are most productive, the "equally productive at home/office" option comes in a close second.

Working full time from home has grown in recent years, but still remains an option for less than 5 percent of the population. However, over 33 percent of companies do allow employees to regularly work at home.

Employees who work from home generally hold a bachelor's degree or higher, with few holding less than a high school diploma.

Working at home has some upsides, like less office distractions and a more comfortable environment, but it also has some downsides, like watching TV at the same time as working, which can lead to less productivity.
Trend Themes
1. At-home Work - Opportunities exist for companies to create innovative work structures that incorporate both in-person and remote work environments to maximize efficiency and productivity.
2. Flexible Work - The rise of remote work has brought attention to the need for flexible work options that can benefit both employees and employers.
3. Education and Training - An opportunity exists to develop new education and training programs aimed at preparing workers for flexible work arrangements and managing remote teams effectively.
Industry Implications
1. Technology - As remote work becomes more prevalent, technology companies have an opportunity to develop and market innovative tools and software that facilitate remote collaboration and communication.
2. Human Resources - The rise of remote work creates a need for HR professionals to rethink traditional employment policies and benefits, including training and support for remote workers.
3. Education - Education institutions can create programs that specifically address the needs and challenges of remote workers, including training on how to maintain a work-life balance and maintain productivity.
