What might at first appear to be an urban scale abstract piece of artwork is one of three new facades of the Wintergarden Shopping Center in Brisbane, Australia. What you will discover on approach, however, is that the busily assembled exterior is not merely a mess of colorful lines.
A closer look and a sharply angled perspective from immediately beneath the building will expose the presence of several magnified butterflies with their delicate open wings spread away from the flat featured walls. Their own details and decorations make them blend in with the textural intricacy and chaotic polychromatism of the line-layered murals so that they're invisible when viewed from a distance.
