People Don't Care What They Say At You, Part II by Natalie Tan is Tan's newest painted poster collection. These acrylic-painted posters feature multiple typographic styles that resemble those on a circus posters; in effect, enticing viewers of all ages to let their wandering eyes rest on these signs. The personality filled texts that Tan uses contrast with the messages contained in each poster. Although the poster's surface may seem fun and whimsical the text is drastically more serious and a cause for major alarm. The language used in the posters contrasts with the playful posters, as it is extremely uncomfortable, offensively blunt and even overtly racist.
These eye-opening pieces confront the sad truth that racism, stereotypes and bigotry, even in today's society, still thrives in existence. Through People Don't Care What They Say at You by Natalie Tan she visualizes some of the racist and offensive interactions in Vancouver she has witnessed since living there. For Tan, the reality that individuals are still freely reacting and making offensive remarks is inexcusable and these posters are her form of protest.
These posters leave viewers with racial stereotypes, unfounded assumptions and bigoted opinions that although presented nicely still have an offensive sting to them.
