The May 2012 edition of Vogue Hellas is ushering in summer with the jaw-dropping elegance and grace of model Dutch Valerie van der Graaf, as photographed by Greek photographer Mara Desipris.
The issue is titled ‘Sex Symbol,’ and it’s not hard to understand why. Van der Graaf’s expressions and poses do away with the reserved ‘Old Hollywood’ styles that have been popular lately and replace them with still retro but much more suggestive and see-right-through-you stares and slightly curled lips. Stylist Michael Pandos deserves credit for pulling off an unmistakably 50s look with a modern flair that manages to be sultry without showing too much skin. He demonstrates how to be sultry and seductive without being gaudy and gouache.
