Jennifer Celio uses the juxtaposition between natural and manmade surroundings to illustrate the invasive tendencies of modern urbanization. Without blatantly depicting nature as being "under-siege" by modernity, the artist instead captures the imbalance created when nature tries to reclaim or adapt to urban expansion.
In one illustration, Jennifer Celio draws a swarm of bats rushing out of an industrial storage unit. The image calls forth the idea of bats rushing out of a dark cave, and disrupts that visual reflection by imposing a building where a cave should be.
Other images depict what would normally be a tranquil environment despite the abundance of industrial installations. Celio's use of oil pump-jacks becomes particularly disruptive when treated as a common neighborhood accessory on par with street lights.
