Deformed Product Art

The Errors in Production by Heike Bollig Beautifies Manufacturing Mistakes

— March 18, 2012 — Unique
Manufacturing mistakes occur on a minute basis—after all, the people behind a product’s creation are just human—and the ‘Errors in Production’ art series celebrates these common albeit rare malfunctions. Started in 2004, nearly 50 deformed products have been found. In reality, this is a minuscule number considering the billions of products in the world. Nevertheless, the find in the Errors in Production series showcases are still impressive.

Conceived and created by German artist Heike Bollig, the Errors in Production series is comprised of everything from malformed marshmallows to perforation-less toilet paper.  Bollig writes, “Due to strict quality management in production and the striving for perfection and efficiency it is extraordinarily rare to find such lone objects that deviate from the canon of industrial standardization.” Hence, it is an ongoing project.
