Women's History Month Kicks off with Photos of Women Working in WWII

To celebrate Women's History Month this March, photos of some of the women that inspired Rosie the Riveter in WWII are re-surfacing and giving a pictorial history lesson on how the woman's role in the working world changed drastically after WWII.

When The Second World War marched into full force, it left a gaping hole in the workforce. For the first time, women flocked to the factories by the masses, inspired by slogans like "We Can Do It," to be the driving force behind the war-effort "back home."

Striking images of women doing what was then non-traditional work, were photographed in a way that showed strength, but also femininity. Although taken 70 or more years ago, these revived and refreshed photos somehow look current, but with a vintage flair.

A testament to the major change in women's roles from the WWII era to the present, these photos serve as a great start to Women's History Month and a reminder of how far the half of the population without a Y chromosome have come.
