‘Granite Web' Spins a Multi-Leveled Approach

‘Granite Web’ is an award-winning concept from Diller Scofidio and Renfro/Keppie Design. The design team came together to produce this contemporary communal concept that brings the future of architecture to Aberdeen Scotland.
The web was spun specially for the Aberdeen City Garden Project, which was open to all designers. Granite Web beat out the competition over a multitude of aspects, and was crowned the winner which will then be voted on by the public in March of 2012 to finalize the project. It should also be noted that the design for Granite Web comes in under the budget, which should be a main selling point for the city garden design.
Granite Web is a great example of how architecture and the environment are becoming intertwined. Granite Web’s design allows for natural light to flow down to the lower levels and celebrates natural beauty, which will be the focal point for the emerging city. The plan involves a theater area, skating rink and several common areas that span several levels.
