My initial impressions of these Mikkel Sommer illustrations were that they were fun gesture doodles featuring the heads of Japanese cartoon characters and edible food mascots. Then I turned my head sideways to view the images horizontally and, to my surprise, these drawings took on a dark and disturbing twist.
If you were to heed my suggestion and rotate these Mikkel Sommer sketches clockwise and counterclockwise accordingly, you'll find that they depict badly injured and worn down bodies of male and female individuals. Viewers soon realize that the transplanted heads are actually there to conceal the identity of these people as opposed to being whimsical elements in grotesque renderings. The concept of an ice cream cone for a head has now become deeply disheartening.
