Photographer Manuel Diestro has captured series of photos, called 'Pyramids,' that are sure to make you pause and think. Most people who think about, or travel to, Egypt think about its magnificent pyramids and their astounding history. What Manuel Diestro is presenting, however, is the beauty of the pyramids being obscured by the industrial wasteland of present-day Cairo.
Manuel Diestro, after living in Cairo for many years, decided to finally photograph the Pyramids of Giza, but did not want to represent them the way they are seen in travel guides. Diestro was able to get his masterpiece 20 km away, where he saw a "landscape full of symbols and strong visual juxtaposition." Indeed, the images he captured are stunning, showing abandoned ads, electric posts and wires and road signs that contrast against the pyramids in the background.
