Sonya Winner has designed rugs that you can't help but smile at. These bright, geometric designs are a great addition and to any room that is decorated in a minimalist fashion since they add an irresistible splash of colour.
In particular, the "After Matisse" rug is an homage to the late French artist Henri Matisse, who famously created many works of art using colored paper cutouts. Sonya Winner's "After Matisse" rug gives off the illusion of transparency where the colors overlap and become darker or lighter depending on the color underneath them.
"After Matisse" also incorporates a structural quality, since the squares of various colored carpet are piled on top of one another, creating slight height differences throughout the rug.
