Donald Trump has been given the go ahead to build a $2 billion golf resort and complex, Trump International Golf Links, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, amid environmental protests. Some environmentalists protested and feared the resort could destroy rare plant species and delicate sand dune systems. However, Trump received Aberdeenshire Council's approval last week.

The resort will consist of two championship 18-hole golf courses, a five-star hotel, a golf academy, 950 holiday homes and 500 private houses at the 1,400 acre site near Balmedie in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Scotland has been the home of the game of golf for over 500 years. Among its most famous links s St. Andrews. It is expected the Trump golf courses will open by spring 2009, with the resort completed by 2012.
