Nerdy

This $1,200 Intelligent Design Titanium ID Mouse is, pound for pound, perhaps the priciest PC peripheral I’ve ever seen. This bad boy features hand-formed grade 1 titanium, a three-button design and a neodymium scroll wheel. The Bluetooth mouse is also outfitted with plastic resin, and Intelligent Design says that it is handcrafted from the inside out. Take that, Apple Magic Mouse!

Despite the global recession, we’ve seen a rise in sleek computer peripherals that come at a hefty cost. As affordable and convenient netbooks appeal to people of any socioeconomic status, pricey peripherals are the arena in which the super-rich can flaunt their wealth and do so stylishly. In addition to the $1,200 Intelligent Design Titanium ID Mouse, we’ve also seen heart-monitoring mice, massaging mice and even steampunked skull mice made of sheep bones. This array reflects consumer desire to customize their computing experience—even as most netbooks and laptops have a capable touchscreen mouse interface.

You can see more images of the Intelligent Design Titanium ID Mouse in the gallery above. Could you justify the expense for this peripheral, or is your standard trackpad or external mouse doing the job just fine for you?

It looks awesome, but for $1,200 it'd better be able to sing show tunes and do the jitterbug.

This is the mouse James Bond would use.
