In this universal aid keynote Bhagwan Chowdry, the founder of the FAB (Financial Access at Birth) initiative, addresses the issues that make modern social programs inefficient.
Within the world there are 2.7 billion people who do not have any access to the basic formal financial services that westerners take for granted. Roughly 50 percent of births go unrecorded with the poorest and most vulnerable making up the bulk of that percentage. This means that these people are off the radar of social service agencies and are unable to receive the necessary aid. All of these problems relate to access challenges.
The FAB initiative aims to do three things: provide a 100 dollar savings deposit for every child born, provide a universal ID for everyone and provide wireless/mobile branchless banking. Through these steps, FAB will make it possible for the unnoticed to become recognized individuals.
