Artist Theo Jansen creates kinetic sculptures made from unconventional materials. The artist uses plastic pipes and lemonade to construct these complex structures that are designed to move and to survive on their own. The artist demonstrates a genetic inspiration behind these life-like structures. The sculptures operate with the use of wind energy that powers them, allowing them to move on its own. The complex proportion of the tubes uses intricate mathematical formulas that give Jansen's art its awe-inspiring kinetic qualities. These sculptures are equipped with a step counter and water detector. While wind variations help the sculptures move in different directions, its contact with the sea or any other water leads to a release of air and protects the kinetic creature from getting lost amongst the waves. These dynamic and distinctive art pieces take inspiration from simple forms found in nature while emphasizing complex methods and concepts.
