With the rise of globalization, and the large-scale integration of women into permanent positions in the 1970s, the female's role in the workforce has increased. They have also been given greater responsibility and more control over the product of their labor.
The speaker, a professor and Co-Chair/Director of Public Education at the Council on Contemporary Families, speaks to the way that the shift from women as homemakers to women who work alongside their husbands or act as the primary breadwinner in the home has had both detrimental and beneficial effects on home life. Ultimately, however, she says everyone should be permitted to experience both a successful family life and a professional life and that there should not have to be a choice between the two.
