This Kevin Starr keynote discusses what characteristics are common to lucrative new innovations and business ventures.
As the director of the Mulago Foundation, the speaker was able to recognize what makes a business or philanthropic venture successful.
The first cornerstone to success that he mentions in his speech is an obvious, but often overlooked one, which requires asking whether or not the product or the mission being promoted is one that is necessary and needed by someone. He claims that there is an influx of bad ideas circulating, which tend to take away from those which are actually beneficial.
He also notes the importance of ensuring that the product works, that it will be easy for the consumer to operate and that there is an effective way to get the product to the consumer.
